Does your skin have small bumps that are white in color? It is a skin condition called closed comedones or whiteheads like it’s popularly known. Whiteheads occur when the pores accumulate dirt and dead skin and block the growth of the follicle. Whiteheads can make the skin look and feel very rough and if proper hygiene is not maintained can cause a lot of irritation and rashes. This is usually caused due to a hormone change in women but other reasons also include extreme exposure to the sun, pollution and dirt, bad food habits and not being hygienic. It’s every woman’s dream to have flawless skin; many skin care clinics offer expensive treatment to get rid of whiteheads. Don’t be fooled by them, there are several easy home remedies using which getting rid of whiteheads is very easy and effective. One also needs to remember that to have healthy skin, it is not only important to treat it externally but internally as well. The food we eat either damages or helps heal the body, so be aware of the food you consume and the effect it has on your skin. Consume a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially carrots, beet-root, tomatoes and loads of greens.
Here are some practical and easy tips to get rid of the whiteheads and dead skin at home.
Use a steamer and give yourself a good facial steam to loosen up the pores so that the dead skin and dirt can be easily removed with a facial scrub. Let your face soak in the steam for about eight to ten minutes before you scrub your face. Rinse with cold water and pat dry after the scrub and voila, your face will be soft and smooth. You can also rub an ice cube or spray rose water on your face to close the pores.
Repeat this every three to four days to have soft and supple skin.
Scrub – Oatmeal
Yes! You read it right; oatmeal is not only good for consumption internally, but also extremely good for the skin. With its abrasive texture, this super food acts as exfoliate and helps remove the dirt and dead skin cells. Use it as a scrub with 2 spoons of yoghurt a spoon of honey and lemon juice and about 4 spoons of the oatmeal. Leave it on the face for ten minutes and then scrub it to get the exfoliating effect.
Doing away with whiteheads is a sweet task. A sugar scrub will work wonders for the skin. It will not only take off all the dirt and dead skin but also help remove the excess oil that causes acne.
Make a simple sugar scrub and use it on your face twice a week to see effective results. To prepare the scrub mix sugar and honey in equal proportions, apply it and massage the face for a few minutes. Leave it on for about 5 minutes and then wipe it with a clean cloth. Rinse your face with cold water and you’re done.
This is one of my favorites as it’s extremely simple and easy to use and gives excellent results. All you got to do is rub the pulp of a tomato on your face, leave it on for 5 minutes and wash off!
How to avoid whiteheads and other skin problems?
We all know the famous saying “prevention is better than cure”.
Let’s follow this and take care of our skin and bodies before the problem occurs. Take these measures to stay healthy and live happily:
Drink loads of water to get rid of all the toxins from your body. An adult should consume at least 10-12 glasses of water each day and the more the better. Add a dash of lemon juice to the water to make it more interesting. The lemon will help cleanse the system.
Exercise daily, exercise will make one sweat and shed all the toxins from the body. Exercise at least thrice a week to stay fit.
Eat right and avoid processed food, oily and spicy food. Alcohol is a strict no-no and if consumed should be in very small quantities.
Keep your pillows and bed sheets clean. The bacteria on the cloth can give birth to various skin conditions.
Wash your hands before you touch your face and try to cover it up while travelling or when in areas with high pollution.
Wash your hair regularly and if you have dandruff problems, consult a doctor and treat it right away.
Avoid using a lot of makeup and if you do ensure the quality of the makeup is good. Try to use only water based makeup products and not oil based.
