Pimples are common and occur mostly in puberty; they occur naturally and often go away naturally too. Some people experience pimples in their old age or in their 20’s too, and think what are the causes of pimples and why are they occurring even after puberty? This article will divide the topic into different sections and will explain the pimple formation and its causes in detail so you know what is happening inside your body. Various skin problems come under acne such as pimples, zits, scars, blackheads, whiteheads etc. The skin of the human body consist of hair follicles, these pores support hairs. Some follicles are invisible to the naked eye because they have fine light colored hair in them. When skin damages or when hair gets damaged due to any reason the follicles or pores open up. Glands on skin produce oil called sebum, this oil combines with keratin and dead surface cells present on the skin. This debris clogs up the open pores; sebum keeps combining with this rubble and keeps clogging up the pore.
Propionibacterium acnes are a type of bacterium present on our skin near oil glands; these evil things find a way through the clogged pore and into the skin. The pore starts to inflame and gets red and fills with pus. The pore swells more and more and feels inflexible when touched. In some cases it pains and causes irritation.
Why do they form?
According to scientists hormones play a major role in acne formation. Hormones such as Androgens increase the size of oil glands which produce sebum thus, the production of sebum increase. During puberty and menstrual cycles or pregnancy androgens get more active and therefore the amount of sebum produced increases more and more. The more the sebum produced the higher the chances of acne formation.
Genes also play a vital role, if acne was prevalent in your ancestors or parents then you might have inherited acne.
Excessive use of make ups and creams which are oil based make your skin greasy and increases the chance of pimple formation. In order to be on the safe side, do not use make up exorbitantly, and use water-based creams.
Avoid scrubbing or washing skin with rough scrubbers as they will damage follicles, it is better to wash your face 5 times a day with just a splash of water. The friction caused by rubbing the skin will open up the pores and they will get infected.
It might be tempting to pick or squeeze pimples, but do not even touch them because bacteria present in your hand will accumulate on your pimple and will stimulate its growth. One pimple can cause more pimples to appear. If you scratch or squeeze your pimples their natural healing will get disrupted. If you manage to burst your pimple do not get happy because pimples which are forcefully pooped leave dreadful reddish pink marks on your skin.
